Tilson Tracker Day 199
Downtown’s Deteriorating Roads
The Tilson and Gigapower project continues to leave its mark on our neighborhoods, but today, we’re not talking about sidewalks, we’re talking about the roads themselves. Residents have raised significant concerns about the state of disrepair left in the wake of construction. Here’s what we’ve documented so far:
Unrepaired Streets
Many streets that were excavated for fiber installation remain uneven and inadequately patched. Instead of returning roads to their original condition, Tilson and its subcontractors have left incomplete or poorly finished repairs, creating hazards for drivers and cyclists.
Examples from the Field:
Large patches of asphalt that don’t match the grade of the surrounding road.
Trenches left unsealed, resulting in further erosion and cracking.
Trenches that were previously sealed have already been exposed.
Lack of Slurry Seal
A slurry seal is typically applied as a final step to restore a street’s surface after construction. This critical process has been skipped in many areas, leaving roads vulnerable to additional damage from traffic and weather. Without this protective layer, the integrity of our streets continues to deteriorate.
Accountability Under the Franchise Agreement
The franchise agreement between the City and Gigapower includes provisions to ensure roads are returned to their pre-construction condition. However, the current state of our streets raises questions about whether Tilson and Gigapower are adhering to these commitments.
What We Need to Know:
Are Gigapower and Tilson conducting proper inspections post-construction to meet the agreed-upon standards?
What penalties or enforcement mechanisms are in place for non-compliance?
The state of our roads is unacceptable, but we have the power to demand accountability. Join us in advocating for a better future for Downtown Las Vegas. Share your photos and stories using our Share Your Story form to ensure your voice is heard.
